Getting started
Which drones does DroneXR work with?
On Android, DroneXR is built for the DJI Mini 4 Pro and DJI Mini 3 Pro, and supports other drones on DJI’s current developer kit through its general DJI support. Older DJI drones — Mavic, Phantom, Spark, Mini 2 and more — fly with DroneXR on iOS, or with our app DroneVR+ on Android.
The compatibility list shows every drone and which app flies it.
What is the difference between the Demo and the free trial?
The Demo plays a recorded flight with simulated telemetry. It shows the full VR experience — HUD, menu, stereo view — needs no drone, and is always free.
The free trial lets you fly your own drone with DroneXR a limited number of times, so you can check it works with your drone, phone and headset before you unlock unlimited flying in the app.
Which VR headset do I need?
Any phone-in VR headset that your phone fits into — the simple kind with two lenses and no electronics. Make sure it leaves your phone’s USB port reachable, because the phone stays plugged into the remote controller, and ideally has adjustable lenses and a head strap.
Choose and set up your headset covers what to look for and how to calibrate DroneXR for it.
Which phones are supported?
DroneXR runs on 64-bit Android phones with Android 7.0 or newer. Decoding and rendering live video in stereo is demanding, so a recent mid-range or better phone gives the smoothest picture.
The Demo is the best test: if it runs smoothly on your phone, a real flight will too.
The image in my headset is blurry or doubled. What can I do?
Calibrate DroneXR for your headset. Start with Lens Distance — if it doesn’t match your headset’s lenses, your eyes can’t merge the two images. Then adjust Scale and the distortion settings. If your headset has adjustable lenses, set them to your eye distance first.
Set up your headset walks through each setting.
Connection & flying
DroneXR doesn’t recognise my drone. What should I check?
Work through these in order:
- Is your drone on the compatibility list for your phone’s platform?
- Has DroneXR finished registering with DJI? The main screen should say DJI SDK registered. The first start needs an internet connection.
- Is DJI Fly or another drone app still running? Close it — only one app can use the controller.
- Are the controller and drone switched on and linked to each other?
- Try another USB cable. Some cables only charge and carry no data.
- Unplug the cable, wait a few seconds and plug it in again. If your phone asks which app to open, choose DroneXR.
Still no luck? Contact us with your drone, controller and phone model.
“DJI SDK registration failed” — what does it mean?
On its first start, DroneXR registers with DJI’s developer service, which needs an internet connection. If it fails, check that your phone is online — not just connected to the drone’s controller — and restart DroneXR. Registration only has to succeed once.
If the error persists, note the message shown after “registration failed” and send it to us.
What should I do if the video freezes or I lose the connection?
Stay calm and press Return to Home (RTH) on your controller. The drone flies back to its home point on its own, and the video usually recovers as it gets closer. Your spotter can tell you where the drone is in the meantime.
Before your first flight, check your drone’s RTH settings in DJI Fly — especially the RTH altitude, which must clear any trees or buildings around you.
Am I allowed to fly FPV with a headset?
That depends on where you fly. In the EU and many other countries, FPV flying is allowed when a spotter next to you keeps the drone in direct sight. Some countries have stricter rules, and local restrictions — airports, nature reserves, crowds — always apply.
Check your national aviation authority’s rules before you fly. It is your responsibility to follow them.
Head tracking doesn’t move the camera. Why?
Open the in-flight menu, choose Head Tracking and check that Pitch is switched on — that is the axis DJI Mini drones can follow. Turning your head left and right doesn’t turn the camera on these drones; that happens by yawing the drone with the stick.
If the camera reacts but feels sluggish, pick the Fast profile.
Where are my photos and videos saved?
Photos and videos you capture with the drone’s camera are saved by the drone, on its memory card or internal storage, at full resolution. Copy them off as you normally would.
Stills and clips from Instant Share are saved on your phone, in Share – Drafts, ready to post.
Are my flight logs uploaded anywhere?
No. Flight logs — including your positions — stay on your phone. They only leave it when you export or share a flight yourself. See our privacy policy for details.
Purchases & account
I bought DroneXR, but it still shows the trial. How do I restore my purchase?
Open the purchase screen in DroneXR and tap Restore purchases. DroneXR checks your Google Play purchases and unlocks again. Make sure your phone is signed in to the same Google account you bought with, and is online.
If you have just bought on another device, wait a minute and try again.
I have a new phone. Do I have to buy again?
No. Your purchase belongs to your store account, not to the phone. Install DroneXR on the new phone with the same account and restore your purchase. To take your flight logs along, use Export all flights on the old phone and Import flights on the new one.
How do I get a refund?
Purchases are processed by the app store, so refunds are too. Request one through Google Play or the App Store under your account’s order history. See our terms for details.
