Your first FPV flight
Read the HUD, keep your bearings, and fly safely with your eyes in the sky.
Read the head-up display
The HUD floats in front of the video and shows what you need at a glance:
| Readout | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| SPD | Ground speed |
| ALT | Altitude above the take-off point |
| SAT | Number of GPS satellites — wait for a solid fix before you go far |
| BAT | Drone battery |
| HOME | Distance and direction to your home point |
The compass tape at the top shows your heading. The minimap in the lower left shows where you are relative to home, always with your heading pointing up.
Fly
- Set the drone down on open ground and step back. Check that the home point has been recorded.
- Put on the headset with your phone connected, and hold the controller in both hands.
- Take off with the controller as usual, and climb to a safe height.
- Fly slowly at first. FPV feels faster than flying by sight, and depth is harder to judge.
- Keep an eye on BAT and HOME, and turn back with plenty of battery left.
- Land, take off the headset, and only then switch off the drone.
If something goes wrong
If the video freezes or you lose your bearings, use Return to Home (RTH) on your controller. The drone flies back on its own, and the video usually recovers as it comes closer. Familiarise yourself with your drone’s RTH settings — especially the RTH altitude — before your first flight.
